Contribute to Inflammatory Bowel Disease Medical Knowledge

The causes of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease are still unknown. Research shows that a person’s overactive immune system, genes, or environment are likely to play a crucial role, although findings are yet to be conclusive.

People who are most at risk are found to be between the ages of 15-30 or 60-80 as well as those with a family history of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Knowledge about the best cure for these diseases is also lacking, and although available treatments for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease are found to have positive effects on some patients, the symptoms recur for a lot of  patients over time.

The lack of conclusive evidence for effective treatment poses a challenge to permanently cure patients, making it crucial to continuously investigate the causes, risk factors, and treatment of this disease.
