About Spoke

Spoke Research Inc is a clinical research company dedicated to the clinical research of Diseases of the Immune System.

Spoke Research was created in 2017 after we were approached to partake in clinical research trials in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Since this offered our patients access to novel treatments, we decided to embark on this journey with our patients and Sponsors.

Currently, we are specializing in clinical trials for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, namely Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease. Our aim is to facilitate future scientific advancement and medical knowledge of these illnesses.

We recruit patient volunteers on behalf of and conduct clinical trials for, the pharmaceutical industry as well as international CRO’s.

Our clinical trials have full South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) approval, as well as full Ethics approval.

Our staff are GCP accredited and include a gastroenterologist, general practitioner, nurse as well as a pharmacist.

Spoke Research Inc is situated in Milnerton, Cape Town and was established in 2017.

We are currently recruiting patient volunteers for an Ulcerative Colitis trial.

Dr M George

Dr Gosia George graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with an MBBCH degree in 1999.

After completing her internship and community service, both at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, she went on to work in Paediatrics and General Medicine in the United Kingdom.

After spending some time travelling the world, she decided to settle in Cape Town and spent some time working at Groote Schuur Hospital.

In 2004 she commenced work in Private Emergency units in Cape Town and ventured into GP practice.

She joined a Family Medicine practice in 2008. Since 2015 she has been working with Dr Deetlefs, predominantly looking after the Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients.

Dr George became involved in Clinical Research in 2017, and now runs the Inflammatory Bowel Disease trials at Spoke Research Inc.

Outside of work she is a wife, mom to twins, keen cyclist and manages to fit in reading, gardening and art into her spare time.

Dr Eduan Deetlefs

Dr Deetlefs did his basic training at the University of Pretoria before specialising as a physician and subsequently a specialist gastroenterologist at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital.

He has been in private practice for close to 10 years and practices from Mediclinic Milnerton.

He has admitting rights and performs endoscopies at both Mediclinic Milnerton and Life Vincent Pallotti Hospitals. New rooms at Vincent Pallotti Hospital, planned for the end of 2020, are awaited with excitement.

Dr Deetlefs sees the whole spectrum of gastrointestinal and liver-related diseases with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and anaemia caused by obscure intestinal bleeding.

He performs numerous procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopies and colonoscopies.

Dr Deetlefs has a wealth of up to date knowledge in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and in addition he has a trial centre, Spoke Research Inc, that specialises in biological trials for inflammatory bowel disease.

Vanesha Naidoo

Vanesha completed her training at St Aidans School of Nursing in Durban.

She is an experienced Theatre and G.I.T nurse.

Vanesha joined the team in 2017 as an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Study nurse.
